Calm Squares

Analogical Photography, 2016, variable size

In Chinese language, there is nothing in common between the ideograms and the way in which they are pronounced. In ancient Chinese poems, there is a criterion of pronunciation rhythm to follow, and a certain number of ideograms and number of sentences (usually 4 or 8 sentences with 5 or 7 ideograms each), because each ideogram has a single syllable.

In my drawings each ideogram is replaced by a picture in which the intensity of the tonality is marked by the number of strokes that has the ideogram that represents, the poem is then transformed into a abstract painting .

The squares will be screened in a dark room, where the original Mandarin Chinese poems recited will be played simultaneously.
